Mike Byrne is a musician from Portland, OR, presently based out of Los Angeles, CA. From 2009 to 2014, Mike played drums for multi-platinum alternative rock band, The Smashing Pumpkins. While with the Smashing Pumpkins, Mike recorded on several releases including Oceania, the band’s eighth major release. In addition, Mike performed on several major tours on arena and festival stages worldwide. Mike is also a founding member of Portland based loop-rock band, Bearcubbin’!, and has recently worked with such artists as Kesha, Børns, Adam Lambert and K. Flay.

 

Mike began playing when he was twelve years old, quickly realizing that he had found his passion. Studying under multiple teachers, Mike explored many musical styles. In 2011, Mike won Modern Drummer Magazine’s prestigious “Up and Coming Drummer of the Year” award, and, two years later, was nominated again for “Alternative Drummer of the Year.” Modern Drummer said that Mike has “a frightening amount of talent” and possesses “mature poise behind the kit.” In addition to being a drummer, Mike also plays a number of other instruments and has extensive experience with programming and electronic instruments.

Mike is currently available for touring, session work, scoring, and drum lessons. Mike is an accomplished drum teacher and teaches students of all ages and abilities. Lessons are available in person at Mike’s studio in NE Los Angeles and also via Skype to students in other parts of the country or world.
